Well from what I can gather from listening to all the manne who went down to Bloem, the October Waterjump 2007, was a success of note. The boys arrived and rigs, chutes, safety’s, lifejackets and helmets were all neatly laid out in precise sticks and ready for use. Organization seems to have been of a high standard and all in all it seems that everyone had an excellent weekend. Accordingly, the attendance numbers were about 150, of which 50 where from 3 Para BN reserve force A, C and D companies and the rest full time.
Aircraft used were 1 x Super Dak, 1 x Dak with turbo props. The Drop Zone was out at the Rusfontein Dam, a new dam, on the road to Maseru, and take off was from Bloemspruit AFB. Turn round time was +/- 40 minutes with 2 Run-Ins of 8 & 9 per stick (17).
For those manne that could not make it. Sorry for you. According to Johan Benade “The airforce was friendly enough to provide the entertainment for us while we waiting for the Dak to return in the form of “The Start up procedure for the Rooivalk” That kept us busy and amused for quite a while. As soon as we got bored again, the chopper jocks would get out, don their Ray- Ban’s and start with that slow motion, helmet under the arm, “I’m going to kick your ass”, Armageddon type march with the smoke in the background. As they could not start the chopper they would go for a smoke and try again in 5 min. All Thanks to the ground crew and pilots for that.”
